48 Hours Later

I've never released a video game before so I decided to try and make one by myself and then release it within 48 hours as part of the GMTK Game Jam 2020.

There are a few bugs, the visuals and sound aren't made by me and the only levels are a few rough tutorials and surface level exploration of the mechanics, but I am chuffed with the outcome.

Star Loop is an arcade puzzle game where your engine is messed up and you can only direct your ship towards the goal. You also happen to be in an unstable infinite looping galaxy where you warp around when you hit the edges.

I've learnt a lot during the jam and I've figured what needs to be focused on in projects like this. Halfway through I got caught up trying to figure out how to load levels (which caused the biggest bug in the game)  and tried to make a fancy menu system where you drive the ship into the sides of the screen to switch levels/go to the menu etc.

I also made the mistake of trying to learn a few things while making the game (again, scene loading) and that meant I didn't have a lot of time for level design or use the mechanics to their fullest.

I might add some more levels and my own art/music at some point. There's something there, I just can't see it yet.

For now I'm going to go lie down now.
